The portal offers three different ways to search for weblogs and users. You
can search for interests that have been inputed by the owners of other weblogs,
a full text search or search
for the username of other users. This search will only find users who have agreed
to be listed in the members catalog. In addition to the main searches, every
individual weblog offers a search function that helps you find keywords within
the particular weblog, the name of the weblog or within the comments there.
When searching for another user, you can also look for the last name of a user.
This option is only available if the particular person has defined his/her last
name as "public" information. The search result will show all users
who match your request. Depending on the log-in status of the users, each search
result differs. If a user is not logged in, the search result will only show
you the username and the name of the weblog. Both items are clickable. Clicking
the username will guide you directly to the profile of the user. Clicking the
name of the weblog will lead you to the starting page of the weblog. If the
person you have searched for is logged in, you will also find his/her first and last name (if their status is public), star level and
interests. You can also re-rank the result either according to the star
level, the username or the first and last name.
The search result list will show you all the users whose usernames begin with
the particular search item. E.g. a search for "al" will show you all
the users whose names begin with "al" (alan, alfred, alex, etc.).
A search beginning with "ale" will list all names beginning with "ale"
(alex, alexandra, alexander, alene, alena, etc.). It's the same when you are
searching for interests. The result for interests will show you the particular
interests and the number of members with the same interest. You can choose whether
you want to rank the result according to the interests or the number of users
with identical interests. Clicking the interest will lead you to a list which
shows the names of all the weblog owners who have the same interests. This list
is similar to the search result for the member search.
Entries can also be found via a full text search. You can either look for a
complete word or just a fragment of a word. The search result will show you
which weblogs contain the particular word or fragment. It is also possible to
search for multiple words. If you select "read entry" on the search
result list, you will be guided to the relevant weblog. It's up to you whether
you want to search within the entries, comments or in the name of the weblogs.
You can also select the ranking criteria for your search result list. "Date"
will show you the latest entry. "Number of comments" will show you
the entries which have led to the hottest debates, and "star level"
will list the blog entries with the most stars!

within a particular weblog.

If your search does not give you a result, check your entry. Try to
be less specific. If you are looking for an interest, try broadening your terms.
For example, search for "classical music" instead of "classical
music of the 19th century". Try to vary your keywords slightly whenever you are
using the fulltext search. If you search for more than one word, try to reduce
your search to the most important keywords.

keywords
The portal offers various search options. The easiest way is to enter multiple
keywords, which are separated by a single space. The search result will show
all entries which contain at least one of the keywords entered. The list will
be sorted according to the relevance of the search. The first search results
will contain the largest number of entered keywords. Results containing the
same amount of keywords will be ranked according to the amount of times the
keywords appeared. If there is not an entry which contains your keyword, there
will be no search result.
Alternatively, you can also search for entries that contain all of the keywords.
Simply seperate the keywords with the plus sign (and do not use blanks). E.g.
if you are looking for all entries about sailing in New Zealand, enter "+sailing+new+zealand".
All of the entries in the search result will contain sailing as well as
New Zealand. If, however, you want to find all entries which contain sailing
but not New Zealand, use the minus sign, e.g. "+sailing-New-Zealand".
You can enter any number of keywords and link them with either "+"
or "-". Please note that only words consisting of at least three letters
will be accepted. Searches are not case sensitive.

The portal allows you to find weblogs according to the interests of the weblog
owner. Our team searches for popular interests and structures them in a logical
order. You can search for "music" and then have the choice between
"rock", "pop", "classical", etc.. For every specific
interest, you will find an overview of the existing weblogs.
Or, you can search for all interests which have been entered by the users.

The thematical specification of a weblog can either be defined by the interests
of the webog owner or according to the content itself. The latter can be found
using the full text search. If you search for "sailing" you will find
every weblog with content contains the term "sailing".
You can also search for weblogs of owners who have specified their interests.
please note: if a user has inserted "sport" as an interest but has
never used the word "sport" in his/her entries, the full text search
will not identify this specific user.
